Cantabo Domino in vita mea, psallam Deo meo quamdiu sum

“I will sing to the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God while I live.” ~Psalm 104:33

Sacred music is a way for God to lead us to the realm of higher things.  Music, or sung prayer, is a vital part of Liturgy.  With the Second Vatican Council, the treasury of sacred music was ordered to be fostered and preserved.  In an effort to fulfill these directives from the Church’s highest authority, we strive for excellence in our Liturgical music. Respecting the gifts God has bestowed on his people, Saint Patrick’s is blessed with an active and welcoming Music Ministry. We have areas of ministry for people of all skill and commitment levels.

St. Patrick’s Schola Cantorum

The St. Patrick’s Schola Cantorum is the principal adult choral ensemble at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. The mission of the Choir is to join the assembly with active participation in the Mass while also providing quality music to lift up the prayer of the people. To facilitate this, the choir’s repertoire ranges from Gregorian chant and Polyphony to music of contemporary composers working in Catholic Liturgy.

The Schola Cantorum rehearses weekly on Tuesday evenings from September to May, and sings at one Mass each weekend as well as Holy day Liturgies and special events planned throughout the year. Our members make up a wide range of the parish community. Freshman in high school and older are welcome to join. A wholehearted commitment to membership in the Schola ensures that its members can create glorious music that enriches their own spiritual lives, and uplifts and inspires those at prayer. An 80% attendance commitment is desirable.

Sanctēlaus

Sanctēlaus, latin for Immaculate Praise, is a choral group made up of female voices. This group provides music in genres ranging from renaissance to work by contemporary composers. Sanctēlaus rehearses on two Tuesday evenings a month, sings for one Mass a month and also offers the sung prayer for our All Soul’s Mass.

Seasonal Choir

St. Patrick’s Music Ministry has a place for those who cannot make a year-round commitment.

The Christmas Choir prepares for Christmas Masses; singing for Midnight Mass, 11:00 a.m. Christmas Day Mass and Mary, Mother of God, a Holy Day of obligation. This group rehearses on Tuesday evenings beginning in November.

The Holy Week Choir prepares for the holiest week of the liturgical calendar when we celebrate the Passion of our Lord Jesus Christ. This group provides music for Palm Sunday, Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Vigil and Easter Sunday. Rehearsals are held on Tuesday evenings beginning in February.

St. Patrick’s Cantors are selected by audition. A minimum of one year in St. Patrick’s Schola Cantorum is required prior to an audition.

In the Catholic tradition, Christmas is a season beginning on Christmas day and ending on the Baptism of the Lord. We celebrate this full season with the performance of a Christmas Cantata, accompanied by a full orchestra. The work is usually presented near the end of the Christmas Season. This past year, we presented "Joy to the World" which features the compositions of John Rutter.

Weekly rehearsals are held Monday evenings beginning in November.
