The Haiti Project at St. Patrick Catholic Church is a ministry that provides supplies and diapers to orphanages run by the Missionaries of Charity Sisters in and around Port-Au-Prince, Haiti. This ministry began when a member of our parish, Jeanine McMullen, traveled to Haiti to volunteer at one of the orphanages. There she witnessed firsthand the desperate need for even the most basic necessities. Once she returned home and spoke to others about her experience, her desire to help quickly spread and soon several parish groups began pitching in to make her plans a reality. Jeanine is no longer with us, but her legacy lives on.
To date, The Haiti Project has utilized the efforts of our parish youth groups and formation classes to collect toys, medical supplies, and monetary donations to send to the Sisters. They also collect used T-shirts that are later cut and sewn into cloth diapers by members of the parish. Other parishioners have offered their sewing talents to make toys, sundresses, and other light clothing for the children in the orphanages. Volunteers for The Haiti Project need only a willingness to offer their time and talent to minister to these most deserving children in Haiti.
