The sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is really a prayer for healing.

It used to be called “Extreme Unction” or “last rites.” Today the emphasis of this sacrament is on healing and technically, it is only the “last rites” when it is the last time we receive this sacrament. When a Catholic is in danger of death please call 763.753.2011 and let the office know as soon as possible so that we can make this sacrament available. There is always healing that takes place through this holy anointing. The soul receives God’s grace and is spiritually prepared to meet the Lord, there may be a healing peace that comes over a person, and there are times when physical healing takes place. If necessary, a visit to the hospital or home can be arranged. I may not always be the priest who shows up. If the hospital has a priest chaplain I will arrange for him to come to your room.
