Would you like to learn more about the Catholic Faith? There is a phenomenal opportunity available for those who can work it into their calendar. The Harry J. Flynn Catechetical Institute was established in recent years to help people learn their faith more fully. It is not solely for those who are catechists teaching in our programs. It is open to all adults. Truth be told…those who do attend will come away with stronger skills in explaining their faith and be ideal candidates to assist or to lead Bible studies, be catechists, and help develop our formation programs. Since its inception it has been held at the St. Paul Seminary and also Our Lady of Grace in Edina, but now it is expanding and it will be coming to Epiphany Catholic Church in Coon Rapids. I am thrilled about this because it makes it so much easier for you to attend!
The program takes participants through the Catechism of the Catholic Church over 4 semesters, with 11 weekly lessons per semester. In essence, the Catechism is seen as the road map for the journey in faith, with each module of the four-module program focusing on one of the four pillars of the Catechism. The Creed: The Story in Miniature, Sacraments: The Blessing Revealed and Communicated, The Moral Life: Fulfillment in Beatitude, Prayer: The Blessing Given and Received. Yes, this is a two year program, and for those who can make it work, it will be one of the best uses of your time. We find time for the things that are truly important. I am confident that this will be life changing!
For more information I encourage you to talk to some of our parishioners who are currently in the program. These include Patti Jochim, Kevin Usher, Chris Kvidera and Mark Kvidera. We have 4 people who are applying right now for next year. My hope is that we have many more. Please pray about this opportunity and ask God if this makes sense for you at this time in your life.
The Church requires all parents to be registered in the parish and to attend a baptism class. The baptism class is held at Saint Patrick’s.
You do not have to wait until your child is born, we encourage you to attend this class as early in your pregnancy as possible. Please call the parish office at 763.753.2011 for more information or for registrations in a baptism class.

33 Days to Morning Glory
This is a six week study beginning on April 18 and going through May 23. The lessons will be held on Thursday evenings from 6:30 - 8:00 pm. With the book 33 Days to Morning Glory and the accompanying group-retreat materials, consisting of six 30-minute DVD lessons by Fr. Michael Gaitley, MIC, and a Retreat Companion for each participant, this program leads us to formally entrust ourselves to Mary, the way Christ did at the Annunciation and as He willed for us at the foot of the cross. We will meet for six weeks to learn about consecration to Jesus through Mary from four of the Marian greats: St. Louis de Montfort, St. Maximilian Kolbe, Blessed Mother Teresa, and Blessed John Paul II. The Consecration Day is planned for May 30th.
Materials can be purchased through St. Patrick's Book and Gift.
SOLID GROUNDS BIBLE STUDY
In 2001, a small group of parishioners here at the Church of St. Patrick gathered to share their common interest in learning more about sacred scripture. A few of those charter members, as well as several others who have joined us over the years, continue to meet in what is now known as the Solid Grounds Bible Study—aptly named for the freshly brewed coffee that is provided at every meeting.
Our morning Bible study group kicks off in September and runs until May. We meet approximately every other Thursday morning right here at the Church of St. Patrick from 9-11AM. Every year we focus on one book of the Bible. There is no fee for the class, but each participant is responsible for the cost of the books used in our study. Our meetings are guided discussions and all members are encouraged to participate by preparing through personal home study and contributing in our group discussion.
In addition to our scripture study, last year we elected to reserve the last portion of our meeting to begin a study of the United States Catholic Catechism for Adults. It was a hit, so we plan to continue that effort again this year.
While our objective is to learn more about scripture by studying it in its historical and cultural context, our ultimate objective is to strengthen our spiritual character and grow in the light of God’s loving message of Salvation.

What is Marriage Encounter?
Marriage Encounter is a weekend getaway that helps married couples rediscover themselves individually and as a couple. The weekend is God-centered and comes out of the roots of the Christian faith. Twin Cities Marriage Encounter is an inter-faith Christian experience and welcomes couples of all faiths or no faith. The organization is not connected to any particular denomination. Individual and couple spirituality are shared versus a denomination. Guided by a team of trained volunteer couples, each participant takes an honest look at self, explores their relationship with each other, their family and society. Great marriages don't just happen. Couples create them! All marriages need attention, effort and nurturing. Marriage Encounter provides an opportunity for you to explore your relationship together and find ways to make it more fulfilling and stronger for a lifetime. The weekend format helps couples communicate openly and honestly. There is no group sharing on a Marriage Encounter weekend.
What is interesting is that most of us don't spend enough time nurturing our marriages. We will spend years getting an education or training for our jobs and careers. We go to seminars, read trade publications and take continuing education classes to keep our job skills sharp but we are lucky to get a night out together as a couple once every month or two. There are few jobs that have the commitment "as long as we both shall live." It is crucial to put as much enthusiasm and work into our marriages as we do our jobs and physical improvement.
A Marriage Encounter is for: Happily married couples, couples who are experiencing stressful times and don't feel like they are going in the same direction, couples who don't feel like they know each other anymore and couples whose homes and lives make it difficult to spend enough time alone together.
Give yourselves a Marriage Encounter! Get away from the distractions of everyday life and focus on each other. We guarantee it will be the best gift you can give each other, your children and generations to come!
The team couples set an atmosphere for open and loving communication. They model the method, and share their own life experiences, making it easier for spouses to talk with each other.
Although your conversations are private between you and your spouse, seeing other couples striving for a better relationship makes it easier for you to communicate openly and honestly.

What is Rachel's Vineyard?
Rachel's Vineyard weekends for healing after abortion are offered throughout the year in locations across the United States and Canada, with additional sites around the world. We also offer a 15-week support group model for Rachel's Vineyard. Rachel’s Vineyard is a ministry of Priests for Life
The program is an opportunity to examine your abortion experience, identify the ways that the loss has impacted you in the past and present, and helps to acknowledge any unresolved feelings that many individuals struggle with after abortion. Because of the emotional numbness and secrecy that often surrounds an abortion experience, conflicting emotions both during and after the event may remain unresolved. These buried feelings can surface later and may be symptoms of post abortion trauma.
Married couples, mothers, fathers, grandparents and siblings of aborted children, as well as persons who have been involved in the abortion industry have come to Rachel's Vineyard in search of peace and inner healing. The weekend is a lot of work but yields a fruitful harvest for all who are willing to labor there. To learn more, please read about our weekend retreats. Also, please see comments from people who have attended the weekends, as well as our explanation of the name "Rachel's Vineyard."

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, or RCIA is the process through which men and women who have an interest in the Roman Catholic faith may explore the possibility of becoming Catholic. Through a series of rites conducted in the context of learning about the faith and spiritual formation, participants journey through to full initiation into the Roman Catholic Church.
Who may participate in the RCIA?
- Those who have never been baptized.
- Those who have been baptized in another Christian denomination but would like to join the Roman Catholic Church.
- Those who were baptized Catholic but have received little or no instruction and now wish to prepare for Eucharist and/or Confirmation.
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is a communal process, and so we invite all to pray for those among us who are discerning entrance into the faith.
Lord, we pray for all those who journey to you.
Strengthen their faith.
Open their hearts to the fullness of your love.
Deepen their understanding.
Set their hearts afire for the kingdom.
We ask this through Jesus, who is the Way, the Truth,
and the Life for all. Amen.
RCIA meets weekly on Tuesdays, September through Easter. Classes are held at Saint Patrick's from 7:00 – 8:30 PM. There is no cost to participate, but participation requires the following:
- Attendance at weekly gatherings
- Attendance at Sunday Mass
- Participation in the rituals/events that mark key points during the RCIA process
It is the role of the RCIA team and the entire parish to give opportunities for prayer, witness, spiritual formation and service to shape the journey of those who are seeking to become fully incorporated into the Body of Christ, the Church. To restore the spirit of early Christianity, the RCIA process emphasizes conversion as a participation in the passion, death, and resurrection of Christ.
For more information or to register in the RCIA program at Saint Patrick’s, please call the parish office at 763.753.2011. You may also fill out the contact form
