Since the beginning of this community, this parish has always held a special place for the choir. New directors come and go, but the choir stays intact. Members of this group actively strive to provide high quality music for the weekend liturgies while actively participating in the Mass. This is not a performance group, but a guide for the congregation. We lead the sung prayers of the Catholic Mass. This group sings a variety of music ranging from classical to contemporary. The members of this group make up a wide range of the parish community. Freshman in high school and older are welcome to join. We have some members who have been in this choir for 20 plus years. The choir rehearses from September to May on Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. in the newly named St. Cecilia Centre (formerly the Fine Arts room). This group provides music for one Mass each weekend as well as feast day liturgies and special events planned throughout the year. New members may join at any time throughout the year. To
join this ministry as a vocalist, auditions and solos are not required.
All that is needed is a willingness to learn and help glorify the word of God in
our liturgies. Many of our singers do not read music or have never sung in
an organized choir. The beauty of group singing is that the voices blend
together Throughout
the year, Music Theory classes are held for musicians who have not been trained
in music. These classes teach the basics of music including reading and
understanding it. We also teach some valuable techniques of singing in a
choir. The choir is always in need of experienced instrumentalists to enhance our music. Currently, we use the piano as our main accompaniment along with flute, harmonica, strings, guitars and bass guitars. Occasionally percussion is used. If
you are interested in joining this group, please contact our Music Director,
Kyle Picha at kwpicha AT st-patricks DOT org
or by calling 763.753.2011. Come and join us.
We’ll be waiting!
